What happens when you get your first DUI ?  What will happen when I go to court ?

Q. I can’t afford a lawyer right now so I will just have to go alone and ask for a public defender in the meantime. Will a public defender be able to still help me? How much time will I have to get a lawyer after my first court date?

A.  At the first appearance you will have an opportunity to ask for a Public Defender and/or resolve your case.
The local penalties for a standard 1st DUI are:
3years Probation
2 days (generally means work project)
$2400 Fines or approx $400 Plus 4 days time (also can be work project)
3 month DUI school
*there are many potential enhancements and circumstances that could make the penalties higher or lower
*SB1046 now gives individuals a way to avoid any actual suspension in most circumstances if you act quickly
*Read the information on the pink Temporary license you were likely given. You only have 10 calendar days to take advantage
